On April 12, 2019, Star Energy was awarded the EPC contract for a 150 MW solar PV power plant in Tainan. To construct the plant, SEC planned to utilize 214 hectares of abandoned salt field as a ground mounting and floating PV system divided into 3 zones (Zone A, B, C). A construction permit of outflow control facilities for land use was acquired for the project in June 2019, marking the first case in Taiwan since the relevant regulation has been published.
During the construction phase, the substation of the power plant was constructed with the first foundation piling on September 6, 2019. The first batch of power (46.2 MW) was energized on April 10, 2020. The installation of substation and solar panels and first batch power energization was completed in just 7 months and 4 days, which is a faster completion than the previously built TPC solar PV power plant in Changhua (8 months and 11 days). As a result of full integration and cooperation of collaborators along with the construction interface, SEC achieved the 150 MW power generation target ahead of schedule on September 14, 2020. The project is expected to generate 200 million kWh of green electricity annually for 57,000 households and reduce 114,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.
